Welcome to the online home of SMarts 09, the second annual St Mary’s Festival of the Arts.

Last September the college played host, for the first time, to an explosion of creativity that showcased the diverse talents of our staff and students. The warmth and enthusiasm with which the festival was received, and a huge interest in participating in future events was a complete vindication of the belief of the SMarts team in the often hidden reservoir of creative talent that exists within the college and the local community. In response to the success of the inaugural festival we have resolved to make SMarts09 bigger, better and more inclusive in every way. While of course this year’s festival will include all of the exhibitions, performances, shows and family activities from within the college, that SMarts visitors would expect, it will also be our pleasure to offer a much wider platform for the talents of the local community, and the delicious, international cuisine of a host of local restaurants. So come along to SMarts09 on September 26-27 and enjoy a free* weekend of creative fun at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham.

BREAKING NEWS: Random Jam

What is Random Jam? What isn’t Random Jam?
Well Random Jam isn’t an old pot of some unidentifiable sugary fruit found in the back of a cupboard at your Granny’s house, Random Jam at the SMarts festival is a chance to engage in artistic, lyrical and musical self expression in order to create collaborative ideas with no expectations or limits. From poetry to songs and art bring yourselves your talent, any gear you have and plenty of enthusiasm for Jamming. There will be some guitars, art supplies and percussion instruments but we would love it if people bought their own gear with them as well. There is an open mic available for those who wish to try their ideas out on a larger audience.

So stay away from the sugary stuff and come to Random Jam at SMarts!
